Ed Abernathy was born and raised in Birmingham. He attended South East Lake School, Robinson School, and Banks High School. At Banks he participated in plays and musicals, acting and designing posters. Two of his most influential teachers were Rebecca Jennings, the theatrical producer/director and London Bridges, the set/costume designer.

He graduated college and received a B.A. in Theater from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. There he acted in plays and musicals and took courses in acting, lighting, rendering and scene design. After college Ed studied art with London Bridges here in Birmingham. Tragically Miss Bridges passed away in 1988. She was and still is one of Ed’s strongest influences in art.

In the spring of 1998 Ed began drawing caricatures, and went to work at Six Flags Over Georgia, where he continued to draw and paint caricatures over the next 5 years. He’s also worked at Visionland, Underground Atlanta, and recently at the Myrtle Beach Pavilion in South Carolina.

“It’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had and still gotten paid for it! It’s the only job I’ve had where I ALWAYS look forward to going in to work. And I have never called in sick!”
